When is a wide not a wide
Batsman makes contact
If the ball touches the bat or the batsmans body or clothing.
Batsman moves away from the ball
You cannot create a wide by for instance by stepping away to the leg side to a ball a few inches outside
the off stump. Once you move towards the ball you cannot turn it in to a wide by stepping back.
Batsman moves towards the ball
If the ball can then be hit with normal cricket stroke.
When it is No Ball
No balls take precedence. E.g. bowling above the batsman's waist for fast
bowlers, shoulder for slow bowlers.
